Caliber I.D. launches latest VivaScope 1500 confocal imaging system

Published 30 May 2018

Caliber Imaging & Diagnostics (Caliber I.D.) has launched its latest VivaScope 1500 confocal imaging system to capture digital images of skin at the cellular level.

The reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) device offers dermatologists non-invasive digital images of cellular-structures, resulting in more patient-friendly care.

RCM is a non-invasive, real-time imaging modality that allows clinicians to see within the skin with  high-resolution visualization of epidermis down to the supporting stroma in thin, optical slices.

Upon capturing the imagestotally, clinicians could start reviewing them , leading to painless information about cellular structures at desired depths without making any incisions  to the skin.

The VivaScope  1500 has received  510(k) approval from the US Food and Drug Administartion and has been specifically designed to integrate easily into the workflow of a busy clinic.

The system features an extendible arm and enhanced flexibility of the imaging head for betterpositioning during the examination.

Besides this, the imaging capabilities  permit for a repeatable examination of skin while offering digital images that can be stored for reference and for collaboration using Caliber I.D.'s VivaNet communication system.

Caliber I.D sales and marketing vice president Robert Kelly said: "It's really about how to best support clinicians by providing them with thoughtful and refined tools so that they can offer the highest level of care to their patients.

“Coupled with newly issued RCM Category-1 CPT codes, the non-invasive VivaScope 1500 offers great benefit for clinicians and their patients."

Caliber Imaging & Diagnostics, headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, designs and manufactures in-vivo and ex-vivo confocal microscopy equipment for the medical device, clinical research and life science industries.

The company has over 20 years of experience in confocal microscopy. Caliber I.D.'s VivaScope system is claimed to have featured in more than 800 publications.

The VivaScope system is an in vivo confocal imaging tool that uses a low powered laser to provide non-invasive, real-time, high-resolution images of the epidermis and the superficial collagen layers.
